Spirituality
SpiritualityComing from India, spirituality and philosophy are two aspects that have been imbibed in me right from birth. During my teen years, as in probably any culture, I despised, hated, and smirked at both these aspects with full vigor and constantly complained to my Dad about the paganism and superstitions that they were following every day and talked about the virtues of the Western school of thought - most notably Ayn Rand-style individualism. Ironically, when I came to USA for my studies and later started working here, I went back to some of the spiritual and philosophical thoughts and found that they were not so stupid and not so superstitious after all. It looks like most of the branding such as paganism that is imbibed in the minds of the Western world stems from the Victorian school of thought that was practiced by the first 'discoverers' of India in the 18th and 19th centuries, which is now considered as one of the darker ages of western thought. While I certainly don't intend to preach the virtue of Hinduism over any other religion, I do hope to keep penning my thoughts and my findings in this space. It is amazing how we tend to lose the forest for the trees in almost any religion, more so in one as old as Hinduism. Darwinian theory of evolutionFor starters, we have been hailing Darwinian theory of evolution as one of the significant thought to have improved our intellect and view of the world. I cannot but wonder how we were blind to the AvatarsOfVishnu as portrayed in the epics of Hindu mythology, rubbishing them as just stories. A closer look reveals how the Darwinism is embedded in the story so neatly. Created by admin. Last Modification: Tuesday 12 of May, 2009 11:54:08 EDT by admin. |
